About the society

The International Society for the Study of Behavioural Development (ISSBD) was formed on the 19th July, 1972, and seeks to promote scientific research of human development throughout the life span.

ISSBD cares for developmental science, the global community, and foremost its members and local and global networks who make caring change a reality. We strive for a science that promotes holistic and positive social development by investing in our members (people) and forming networks (places) to close research–practice gaps around the world (through practices). We have members from over 70 countries across 6 continents, and we have hosted biennial meetings around the world, along with regional meetings, since 1969. We foster solidarity in a network of researchers that enables immediate and sustained growth by providing lasting, focused support for early career researchers, majority world researchers, and all our members. Our Regional Representatives promote active local engagement by hosting local workshops across a range of scientific focus areas with the aims of making real impacts in surrounding communities, and we build and strengthen synergies for a global community of developmental scientists.
